David is a conceptual copywriter with over 30 year’s experience - 19 of them as a freelancer servicing local and global ad agencies.

He studied Industrial Psychology and Economics at Wits University (Joburg); and then post-grad Journalism at Rhodes University.

David cut his copywriting teeth in 1984, under the inspirational Robyn Putter (who went on to become Executive Creative Director for the international Ogilvy Group). He moved to Gaborone, Botswana in 1987, and a few years later he relocated to Amsterdam. He returned to SA in 1992.

For the next six years David freelanced in Joburg and Cape Town for a number of the biggest agencies in the country (including Ogilvy, FCB, DDB, J Walter Thompson, Young & Rubicam, McCann-Ericsson, Publicis, and King James). In this time he won a host of local and international awards; and landed a number of high-profile accounts.

Between 1998 and 2010, David was Creative Director of 2 boutique ad agencies that he started with partners. Ethos specialized in IT and B2B advertising. And BrandsHatch specialized in launching new consumer brands and reviving old ones. In 2010 his partners parted ways to pursue interests abroad, and in the film industry.

David hit the freelance circuit once again – as a Senior writer and consultant for major global agencies; and worked virtually with teams from San Francisco to Sydney. In Cape Town he’s worked recently with Ogilvy, Y&R, JWT and FCB.

While working with Jonathan on a successful global pitch for Coke, the vision of One started emerging, and gathering momentum. The rest, as they say, is the future.
